This is a an English-language version of the Norwegian båtførerkurs. The course covers navigation, reading nautical charts, sea marks, navigation lights, safety and environment, regulations for preventing collisions at sea, navigation instruments and numerous smaller topics.
The exam from this type of course became mandatory May 2010, for boaters born 1980 or later if they are to use boats of more than 8 meters or having an engine of more than 25 hp.
The next course is planned for June 2011:

| Saturday 18, 10 am - 2 pm | Recap + exam |
By the end of Sunday 12. we will have been through the entire syllabus, so those unable to attend the exam on Saturday 18. will be qualified to sit the exam at a later date.
Due to significant lead time on English-language textbooks, please sign up early.
The venue has not yet been decided. If you (or your employer) can provide a suitable location such as a cafeteria or club house on Hundvåg/Buøy or near Stavanger harbour/Byfjord/Dusavik you and your colleagues will get a rebate on the course price.
